Naseema Sonday

Research Contracts Manager

Naseema completed a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Cape Town in 2008. Thereafter she began studying an LLB through the University of South Africa, part time, while working as a trainee in the Patents Department at Von Seidels Intellectual Property Attorneys for 2 years. She also completed the requisite examinations with the South African Patent Examination Board, specialising in Patent Law. Thereafter she continued to work in the innovation and tech entrepreneurship industry, spending time at the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) in the CHUMA Programme where she was exposed to University Technology Transfer Offices and local venture capital firms.

Naseema completed her LLB in 2015, having then worked in the Technology Transfer Offices of both the Medical Research Council and the University of the Western Cape. Here she gained extensive experience in contract drafting within the research academia field. Naseema joined UCT as a Contracts Manager in March 2017.

 

Nadia Ebrahim

Research Contracts Manager

Nadia commenced her studies at the University of Cape Town in 2002. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a triple major in Law, Psychology and French in 2004, a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws degree in 2006 and a Master of Laws degree in 2008. She completed her articles at Chennells Albertyn Attorneys, where she gained invaluable experience in a broad array of legal fields, most notably commercial, contract and corporate law as well as labour and employment litigation. Nadia also worked for Shields Chiat Attorneys and has sat as an assessor of the Western Cape High Court and has worked as an ABSA Bank Business Legal Advisor and Due Diligence, Risk and Compliance Officer. She is an admitted attorney and conveyancer and is currently studying for her admission as a notary public. Nadia joined UCT as a Contracts Manager in April 2016.

 

Marle De Villiers

Research Contracts Manager

Marle joined RC&I as a Research Contracts Manager in June 2012. She commenced her studies at the University of Stellenbosch in 2002, where she obtained a BA degree in Ancient Studies and Law before completing her postgraduate degree in Law (LLB) as well as her master's degree in Law (LLM). She completed her articles at Jardim Bekker Inc in 2010, gaining experience in general litigation and the drafting of various agreements.

Marle is a qualified attorney, conveyancer and notary public and worked most recently at Harmse Kriel Inc. where she gained post-qualification experience in litigation.

 

Warda Sablay

Research Contracts Manager

Warda commenced her studies at the University of Cape Town in 2001. She obtained a B Com Degree in Economics and Law, where after she completed a postgraduate degree in Law. She completed her articles at Abrahams and Gross Inc. in Cape Town in January 2009. She has 2 years experience in general litigation but her main area of focus was family law. She specialised in running maintenance and divorce trials. Warda was admitted as an attorney in March 2009 and was appointed as a Research Contracts Manager by UCT in May 2009.


 

Roger Wallace

Research Contracts Manager

After completing his articles in Cape Town in 1999 Roger spent a year in Australia doing legal work on a number of large industrial litigation matters. On his return in 2001 he joined UCT as a Research Contracts Manager.

He is responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating and finalising a range of research related contracts, including, consultancy agreements, collaborative research agreements, material transfer agreements, secrecy and non-disclosure agreements and publishing agreements. Roger is a qualified attorney and holds BA, LLB and MBA degrees from UCT.

 

Julie Nadler-Visser

Research Contracts Manager

Julie is a qualified attorney (B.Soc.Sc LLB LLM) with five year's experience in general practise, with a Master's degree in Environmental Law and two year's prior working experience in the Research Department at Old Mutual. Julie has been with RC&I for nine years, in which time she has gleaned an extensive knowledge in the processing and drafting of research contracts and has offered her services where required in associated legal matters.
