Lucinda Rooza

Research Contracts Manager

Lucinda entered the legal field in 2007. A self-funded scholar who has grown her formal qualifications including Senior Paralegal studies and a Bachelor of Laws degree majoring in environmental law, world trade law and international law. She spent two years in a law firm before moving into the corporate world. Lucinda comes with ten year’s extensive experience in corporate where she had a key seat on a specialist panel focusing primarily on commercial drafting, government relations, risk and insurance in an international group company. Lucinda joined RC&I in June 2018.

 

 

Naseema Sonday

Research Contracts Manager

Naseema completed a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Cape Town in 2008. Thereafter she began studying an LLB through the University of South Africa, part time, while working as a trainee in the Patents Department at Von Seidels Intellectual Property Attorneys for 2 years. She also completed the requisite examinations with the South African Patent Examination Board, specialising in Patent Law. Thereafter she continued to work in the innovation and tech entrepreneurship industry, spending time at the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) in the CHUMA Programme where she was exposed to University Technology Transfer Offices and local venture capital firms.

Naseema completed her LLB in 2015, having then worked in the Technology Transfer Offices of both the Medical Research Council and the University of the Western Cape. Here she gained extensive experience in contract drafting within the research academia field. Naseema joined UCT as a Contracts Manager in March 2017.

 

Nadia Ebrahim

Research Contracts Manager

Nadia commenced her studies at the University of Cape Town in 2002. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a triple major in Law, Psychology and French in 2004, a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws degree in 2006 and a Master of Laws degree in 2008. She completed her articles at Chennells Albertyn Attorneys, where she gained invaluable experience in a broad array of legal fields, most notably commercial, contract and corporate law as well as labour and employment litigation. Nadia also worked for Shields Chiat Attorneys and has sat as an assessor of the Western Cape High Court and has worked as an ABSA Bank Business Legal Advisor and Due Diligence, Risk and Compliance Officer. She is an admitted attorney and conveyancer and is currently studying for her admission as a notary public. Nadia joined UCT as a Contracts Manager in April 2016.

Louise Groenewald

Research Contracts Manager

Louise Groenewald is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and graduated at the University of the Western Cape with a LL.B degree in 2007 and completed her LL.M degree in Intellectual Property Law through UNISA in 2012.

She completed her tenure of articles at Laubscher & Hattingh Attorneys in Durbanville where she gained experience in drafting Wills and Contracts, Corporate Law and litigation, to mention a few. Louise went on to commence employment at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2014 as a Contracts Officer in their Technology Transfer Office. When her employment ended at CPUT in April 2017, she took up a position at the University of Cape Town as a Contracts Manager in their Research Contracts and Innovation Department where she is currently employed on a permanent basis.

 

Julie Nadler-Visser

Research Contracts Manager

Julie is a qualified attorney (B.Soc.Sc LLB LLM) with five year's experience in general practise, with a Master's degree in Environmental Law and two year's prior working experience in the Research Department at Old Mutual. Julie has been with RC&I since 2003, in which time she has gleaned an extensive knowledge in the processing and drafting of research contracts and has offered her services where required in associated legal matters.
