World IP Day 2018: Celebrating Women

14 Mar 2018 - 14:15

The World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is celebrated each year on 26 April and this year the theme is “Powering change: Women in innovation and creativity”. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has selected this theme to recognise and celebrate the contribution of women in driving global change through science, innovation and the arts.

Increasingly, women are involved with or leading high-tech companies, engineering ventures, science mega-projects and solving various challenges in disciplines that were traditionally in the realm of men.  The role of the IP system in supporting women in their pursuit to create, develop and implement innovative ideas cannot be overemphasised.

In the spirit of world IP Day 2018, RC&I will, through a variety of initiatives, recognise and celebrate the contributions of innovative women at UCT who are powering change in their respective fields.

Join UCT in celebrating World IP Day 2018 and if you have a great story that you want to share with RC&I, please contact Philip Hoekstra at  Please also like our Facebook page, which you can find by searching for the tag @uctinnovation, if you are interested to keep up to date with our initiatives.
