Student Entrepreneurship Week 2018

16 Aug 2018 - 08:45

The prevailing need in South Africa is for sustainable economic development through the creation and growth of jobs and the support of new businesses to provide goods and services.

The University of Cape Town has responded to the call from the Department of Higher Education and Training to host a series of events and activities that would contribute to this discussion. The UCT programme contributes to National Student Entrepreneurship Week (#SEW2018), and comprises a number of public talks, expos and panel discussions.  View the UCT programme here.

Research Contracts and Innovation invite you to participate in the two events that will be held on 29 August.  We will be launching a UCT Innovation Ecosystem Map that highlights where Incubators, Accelerators and UCT Spin-off companies are situated; to assist Students and Researchers to access entrepreneurship incubation services within Cape Town and surrounds.

The first event will be a panel discussion between off-campus Incubators and Accelerators who support entrepreneurs through their journey.

They will discuss their respective support models for entrepreneurs; and the contributors to success as well as other pitfalls that would-be entrepreneurs need to be mindful of on their respective journeys.

The panellists include: Nick Allen from Savant, Sarah-Anne Allman form the UCT GSB Solution Space, and Roger Norton from Playlogix. The venue for this event is Molly Blackburn on upper campus from 10am.

The second event on the 29th August is an opportunity to engage with tech entrepreneurs and UCT spin-out companies who have taken the bold move of commercialize their research outputs to realise their intended impact. Join us for an interactive talk with entrepreneurs from Impulse Biomedical and other UCT Spin-off companies.

The venue for this event will be the Seminar Room in Allan Cormack House, Mowbray; and RSVPs must be made to

We look forward to engaging with you,

RC&I team.
